wine helps
Dec. 13th, 2004 01:53 amMany good points to second half of extended version of Return of the King, including a couple of moments between Eowyn and Faramir which make their relationship look at least plausible, appearance of Mouth of Sauron (though, as my mother pointed out, distinct divergence from text when it comes to ultimate fate of Mouth of Sauron, and Aragorn really would not have done that sort of thing to a herald, in fact the text remarks on proper behaviour vis-a-vis heralds), brief Houses of Healing scene, even if they omitted the most important damn line of that entire episode, a chance for Eomer to actually express some feelings about his sister being found apparently dead on the field of battle, the scene with a disguised Frodo and Sam being dragged into the legions of Mordor, etc . . .
Look, I'm being nice and cutting possible spoilers. Really.
And don't give me that look. Just because the UK's had something released before the USA for once in a blue moon . . .
Mmph. Must get stuff ready tomorrow for Murder Game on Tuesday. Am already getting nerves. Darn it. When I've run games before, it's always been with experienced players, or at least some experienced players in the group. Here everyone's going to be totally new to it. Must maintain calm and smile a lot. Wine is being served during the meal, which should help when it comes to dramatic overacting and murder accusations.

We heard of the horns in the hills ringing,
the swords shining in the South-kingdom.
Steeds went striding to the Stoningland
as wind in the morning. War was kindled.
There Theoden fell, Thengling mighty,
to his golden halls and green pastures
in the Northern fiels never returning,
high lord of the host. Harding and Guthlaf,
Dunhere and Deorwine, doughty Grimbold,
Herefara and Herubrand, Horn and Fastred,
fought and fell there in a far country:
in the Mounds of Mundburg under mould they lie
with their league-fellows, lords of Gondor.
Neither Hirluin the Fair to his hills by the sea,
nor Forlong the old to the flowering vales
ever, to Arnach, to his own country
returned in triumph; nor the tall bowmen,
Derufin and Duilin, to their dark waters,
meres of Morthond under mountain-shadows.
Death in the morning and at day's ending
lords took and lowly. Long now they sleep
under grass in Gondor by the Great River.
Grey now as tears, gleaming silver,
red then it rolled, roaring water:
foam dyed with blood flamed at sunse;
as beacons mountains burned at evening;
red fell the dew in Rammas Echor.
