Lovely quiet peaceful day. Back to work tomorrow. Do not want to go back to work. Insert swear words here.

Love Sonnet XI

I crave your mouth, your voice, your hair.
Silent and starving, I prowl through the streets.
Bread does not nourish me, dawn disrupts me, all day
I hunt for the liquid measure of your steps.

I hunger for your sleek laugh,
your hands the color of a savage harvest,
hunger for the pale stones of your fingernails,
I want to eat your skin like a whole almond.

I want to eat the sunbeam flaring in your lovely body,
the sovereign nose of your arrogant face,
I want to eat the fleeting shade of your lashes,

and I pace around hungry, sniffing the twilight,
hunting for you, for your hot heart,
like a puma in the barrens of Quitratue.

man, I'm dreading tomorrow. I hate mondays, just on principle.

the only non-depressing monday is one where work is not involved.

Ah, my sympathies. I'm dreading having to go back to work too.

That's a very nice translation of the Neruda, by the way. Far more literal than some I've seen but still flows nicely. Do you know who it's by? (I'm slightly fascinated by the food metaphors in his poetry. They're really lovely.)

I'm almost positive that the translator is Stephen Tapscott, as that's the same version of the poem that's in my horridly pink (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/customer-reviews/0292760280/ref=cm_cr_dp_2_1/002-7882074-0117610?ie=UTF8&customer-reviews.sort%5Fby=-SubmissionDate&n=283155) copy of the sonnets. (I'd pull out the book to make sure, but it's packed up in a box in my new apartment at the moment.)

It's also one of my very favorites, so thanks for posting it! It was lovely to read it again.

Ah, thanks. And it's a bilingual edition. *makes note to buy it*

That's alright. I thought that's probably what it was because it happens often with stuff on the internet. But what a cool website.
